Ibn Asakir was a Sunni Islamic scholar, a historian and a follower of the Sufi mystic Abu al-Najib Suhrawardi Romanized: Ibn Asākir; 1106-1175). Damascus History (Arabic: Tarikh Dimashiq) is one of the most important books on Syrias Islamic history, covering the lives of important people who have lived or visited Damascus. This is not limited to the examination of hadith, Ilm ar-Rijal, narrators, but also includes historical and political figures. Ibn Asakir tried to gather all that was said about that figure, real or false, with a complete chain of narration when it came to Islamic figures. There s even a big selection of Arabic poems in it.
