Description
The Tafhim is a synthesis of interpretation of Orthodox and Modernism and has profoundly influenced modern Islamic thought. It varies in many respects from standard exegesis. It is more than a conventional scriptural commentary, as it involves discussions and debates about economics, sociology, history, and politics. Maududi stresses the Quranic viewpoint in his text and claims that Islam gives enough guidance in all spheres.
Maududi uses the traditional methodology, including the historical reasons behind the verses, to provide an interpretation of the Quranic verses from the Sunnah of Muhammed. The Tafhim deals extensively with problems faced in general by the modern world and in particular by the Muslim community.
