His Kunyah was Abu Bakr and his name was Sharif Ahmad ibn Husayn Bayhaqi. He held a respectable and esteemed rank in the eyes of the Islamic Scholars and muhadditheen, and his excellence was confirmed. His works numbered in thousands and some reports attribute seven thousand articles on different aspects of religion. This reflects on his wide knowledge and ability. Among his works, the very well known are Kitab Mabsoot, Kitab as-Sunan, Kitab Dalail an Nabuwah, Kitab Marifat Uloom Hadith, Kitab Bath wa al Nushoor, Kitab Aadab, Kitab Fadail Shahabah Kitab Fadail Awqat, Kitab Shab al Imam, Kitab Akhlaqiyat, and so on. He was born in Shaban 384 AH and died at Nishapur in 456 AH.
In addition to his other important work in the field of Hadiths, it is one of the main collections of Hadiths collected by Imam Behaqi. It contains nearly eleven thousand (11000) hadiths (narrations) according to Maktaba Shamila. This book describes branches of faith (Shuab ul Iman) and Imam essentially chose the name of the book according to Prophet Mohammads Hadith in which he stated that there are more than seventy (70) branches of faith.
