In Tabariya As-Sham Imam Al Tabarani was born in 260H. Hadiths are narrated by more than 1000 scholars (Muhaditheens). He has written many books on Hadith including Al-Mujam Al-Kabir Al-Mujam Al-Awsat and Al-Mujam As-Saghir. Sayyiduna Abu l Abbas Ahmad Bin Mansoor states: from Imam Tabarani I have narrated three hundred thousand Ahadites. In Isfahan Iran he lived most of his final life and died there on the 27th of Dhul-Qaeda 360 H.

One of the Hadith books compiled by Imam Al-Tabarani (874–971 CE 260–360 AH) is Al-Mujam al-Kabir It is part of his Muajam Al-Tabarani collection of Hadith books. Al-Mujam al-Awsat & Al-Mujam as-Saghir are the other two books in the group.

According to Maktaba Shamila it is one of the most extensive hadith compilation books containing nearly sixteen thousand hadiths (16000).
